  1. To create an easy way to export maps in image format (jpg, etc..) at different scale

It's very usefull for publications, documents, reports, media, educational tools etc... to be able to easily create a map of protected areas of the entire plantet or a specific area, to be able to include or print those files.

we are looking at different options for downloading the protected area information both from the main map, the protected area pages and the country pages.

    • Add an OpenStreetMap copyright notice

Add an OpenStreetMap copyright on the map, as well as Mapbox's, since it seems to be using their tiles. See http://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright

      • generate a fusion table for each protected area

Allow users (or the system) to create a fusion table for each protected area's boundary coordinates. This would allow users to load the cloud-stored table directly into tools such as Google Earth Engine (beta), or Map Engine. Then users could review Landsat images of a selected protected area.

The data format would be similar to KML, one column of the table must contain a coordinate. Data is exported in a comma-separated values file format.

Google Fusion Tables (or just Fusion Tables) is a Web service provided by Google for data management. Data is stored in multiple tables that Internet users…

This won’t be happening this year now as other priorites had to come first. It’s still on our list and hope to tackle it next year.

              • There are missing protected sites in my area.

It would be good to be able to add new sites to the current map, obviously marked as a user entry until the local authority validates it.

                  • Allow the link to Management Effectiveness file.

Decision-makers will be happy to see what is going on in the field. I think it will be a good idea if the link to the management effectiveness document is insert in the PA records. By the way, protectedplanet is a good work.

                        • allow users to create lists of protected areas

I suspect that it'll be fun to be able to create lists of protected areas: "must-see wildlife destinations in India", "tiger source sites sensu Walston et al, 2010" and so on.

                            • Might be a good idea to distinguish more between international versus national sites

as this level of distinction between PAs is the top of the hierarchy and because the attribute criteria apply differently (increasingly more so) to national vs international sites. For example, World Heritage Sites must be named in both French and English (even if there is a local language name) while any other national designation can store the name of the park in Original language characters as well as Latin characters but we don't make it mandatory to translate the name into English (as this is often not possible--or doesn't make sense).

                              • International designations must have short, common names

In the current implementation, World Heritage sites, UNESCO Biosphere Reserves and Ramsar sites all show the long names of the conventions in the site name and this is presumably what is used to search and scrape from Wikipedia. In common practice, the sites are never called by the name of the convention, they are rather called something shorter. For example, the "Reserva De La Biosfera Archipiélago De Revillagigedo Wetlands Of International Importance (Ramsar)" - as it is called on Protected Planet would simply be called, the "Reserva De La Biosfera Archipiélago De Revillagigedo Ramsar Site" in common practice.

                                My suggestion…

                                • Allow selection of polygons for download by drag to select tool

Allow selection of polygons for download by a standard drag to select tool - drawing a polygon over the area of interest to select PA's in it for download. say I want to download all protected areas in and around the baltic sea. Then your search function is not worth anything. Instead I have to use the latest version of the full WDPA which could be downloaded some time ago and make the selection myself in GIS to proceed working with the smaller dataset or display my area of interest in GE. Not all people have this option and I…

                                  • add pop-up tips on the map, which tell you the PA name you're hovering over, instead of 'click here'

Would make it easier to navigate the maps - at the moment need to click each individually to find out what's near a PA I'm looking at.

                                        • Would it be possble to edit the species list?

Some areas do not have a GBIF page. Why is this? Is it possible to create or edit one?
